Why we’re building Saddle

When Slack launched, they told us where work happens was going to change. And for a while it did. The product was great, and you could feel how much the team cared.

We idolised Stewart Butterfield, read his famous essay countless times, and dreamt of being relaxed, productive leaders.

A decade later, the opposite has happened. We ended up with more emails, messages and notifications than ever. We got another place to check. And then another.

We were left on work.

Now we’re at a kid’s birthday party reading messages, in the pub sending team updates, and waking up at 3am thinking about that email.

Work messaging has become a runaway horse.

We could try to fight it. But that never seems to work.

The internet is the so communication is only going to get faster and more abundant. Especially as we start too.

Instead of fighting this reality, let’s find ways to tame these horses, starting with email.

Saddle is a new way to stay on top of your work emails

Saddle isn’t going to be for everyone. We have opinions, you see. On design, on how software should make you feel, on what great work looks like.

But if you want to become a calm and responsive leader, as well as a present parent.

If you’re running a team or company, whilst trying to have some sort of social life.

If you want to stop being overwhelmed by the never ending flow of messages, you’ll find Saddle much better at keeping you on top of your emails.

That’s why we’re selling saddles here.
